Belize, USA and Australia Week 14: 11.02.2013 - 17.02.2013 Monday:- It wasn't the best night sleep. Four of us in one hot room but we managed to get a few short hours in. I was up around 6:30 to dress and pack the last few bits before heading off to the water taxi pier in full pack horse mode. We all got great seats at the front of the water taxi. The taxi not only left on time but arrived

Belize Week 13: 04.02.2013 - 10.02.2013 Monday:- Weather fantastic so the bird survey is on. We left at 6:30 and managed 4 points with mostly I identified heard!!! The highlight of the survey was the unexpected appearance of a manatee. We surprised it with the boat. Once it realised we were there it raised its back in a swirl of mud, flicked its tail and was off through lovers tunnel like a rocket causing a huge wake. Awesome!       https://youtu.be/XB4kLVm0ZAQ

Belize Week 12: 28.01.2013 - 03.02.2013 Monday:- Early start this morning. It was really windy but we still went out on the bird survey through forest behind camp. We went as far as the jetty, which was through the usual stinky mangrove mud, and then back along the beach path. https://youtu.be/GCGAvvFH9Nc   Every now and again we stopped for the timed point surveys - I even got to name one of the new survey sites "Crooked Tree". Most birds flew past

We were to visit 2 sinkholes.    The first was quiet but the second gave us an awesome treat - a mum and baby manatee. We approached in the kayaks and then as the se was so shallow we were able to get out, approach even more and then just stand in the sea and watch. Just to top it off 2 spoonbills flew over.

Belize Week 10: 14.01.2013 - 20.01.2013 Monday:- Could have slept for longer this morning.. Up for a waffle breakfast. Then packing. Today we were off to Shipstern Nature Reserve for a few days. Minimal things were needed but we would be in a high bug area so long trousers and sleeves required. The morning was more bird learning and megafauna. At 11 ish Joel arrived in the truck to pick us up. It was a 30 minute journey to the outskirts

Belize Week 9: 07.01.2013 - 13.01.2013 Monday:- Woke later than I hoped. Packed and waited for the taxi to collect me and my bags and take us to the jetty. Carlos was prepping his boat before his snorkel tour so we talked and said our goodbyes. In true Belize style the water taxi was 30 minutes late but I got a good seat and managed to buy a couple of bags of plantains for my journey. Not much of a breakfast,

Belize Week 8: 31.12.2012 - 06.01.2013 Monday:- A three and a half hour stopover. I was almost the first to wait at the gate but it soon filled up. Mostly with families and from Canada! I grabbed something to have for breakfast and we were off. I sat next to Mike and Luke (father and son) who seemed to know exactly what they were doing - unlike me I had done little to no research and I still hadn't booked a
